Description
This water lily was photographed at a pond in Greenville, South Carolina. The pink, yellow, and white flowers compliment the green hues of the lily pads. Water lilies are rooted in the soil of lakes and ponds, with the leaves and flowers floating on the surface of the water. The water lily belongs to the Nymphaeaceae family of flowering plants, and live in temperate and moderate climates. The family contains eight genera. The genus Nymphaea contains about 35 species in the northern hemisphere, and have leaves that are round with a radial notch. The genus Victoria contains two species common to South America, and have circular leaves.
